On the 1st of January 1911, the Australian Government took
possession of 2357
square kilometres of Ngunnawal land, in the Yass-Canberra district of New
South Wales (NSW) to form the Federal Capital Territory. This was renamed
Australian Capital Territory (ACT), and has become the site for the Australian
National capital.
These drawing plans, in the style of Victorian architecture 'Australiana', illustrate
the conceptual design project and sculptures that could be used for an Australian
National Memorial Monument.
The proposed structure has been designed to remind people of this
important historical event and their collective willingness to have a designated
piece of land in which to build the future National Capital.
The architectural sculpture memorial marks this event by,
not only celebrating the arrival of one hundred years of history, but also acting
as a reference point for the future of the Australian nation,
its people and territories.
